My Honest Review of WebComp Analyst
I didn’t really understand the importance of link analysis until I realized how much time I was wasting building unnecessary links back to my sites. Of course backlinks are a vital component to getting your sites ranked, but why build 900 backlinks when you only need 100? I saw a video about WebComp Analyst somewhere, and after watching it I decided that this was exactly what I needed.
I purchased it quite a while ago and have been using it ever since in my online business. I have also had several of my subscribers ask me questions about it, so I thought I would write a review on the product.

One of the things I love about WebComp Analyst is its ease of use. The interface is straight forward and doesn’t lose you in unnecessary complications that will have you scratching your head wondering what to do next.
To check out what sites are ranking for a certain keyword phrase you simply enter your keyword phrase into the designated field marked ’Keywords’. When WCA is searching for results you need to leave a few seconds in between each search result. This is so Google doesn’t temporarily ban your IP. The default is set at 5 seconds and I would leave it at that.
You can also choose which country you would like to check the search results in. It has a drop down menu with over 130 countries to choose from. This is an excellent feature to have if you are looking to build a site that is aimed at a certain country.
You can also choose how many search results you want WebComp Analyst to retrieve for you. You can choose anything from 5 to 100. This is also a very handy feature, as it can take quite a while to bring up 100 results due to the 5 second delay in between each result found, so if you only need to get the results for the first 10 sites you can.
After the results have been retrieved for your chosen keyword phrase there are several important things you need to look at. In bold, you will see your chosen keyword phrase and then next to that the “quoted” search results. This is the number of competing sites you have for that exact phrase.
Just beneath that you have a “Commercial Intention” figure. This tells you whether people that type this keyword phrase into Google are intending to buy or not. You can see here from the example I used, “Cheap Beach Towels”, that it has a commercial intent of 0.95, so this mean 95% of the people that type in this keyword phrase are looking to buy a cheap beach towel. This can really help you to determine whether you should use a keyword phrase or not.
You will also see that there are six different columns. From the left you have “Rank”. This is the sequence of the top ranking sites for this particular keyword phrase, And also in the county that you chose the results to come from (so in the example here I used results from the USA).
The next column along shows you the title of the site or post that is ranking in that position. The you have the actual URL that is ranking for that keyword. Sometimes it will be the top domain, but more often than not it will be an internal page, so you will get the whole URL for that particular page.
Then you have a column called “backlinks”. This will show you how many backlinks that particular page has linking back to it. From this you can determine roughly how many links you need to build back to your main site URL, or to an internal page that you want to rank for that particular keyword phrase. This is very powerful information to have and will let you know exactly what you need to do to get your site ranked above your competition.
The next column shows the total number of links that site has. This may be considerably different to the number of backlinks you see for a single internal page from the same site. It might just be that the site owner has not built many links back to that one page, but the rest of the site has a lot more links.
In the last column you will see the page rank of each site listed. This will give you a good indication of the kind of competition you are up against for any chosen keyword phrase. For example, if you see all of the sites on the top 10 have a PR of 4 or higher, then you know it will be pretty tough to break into that top position without some long term work. But if you see 10 sites that have low PR, 0’s and 1’s, then you know your task will be a much easier one.
Now once you have all of your results, you can dig deeper still. If you want to know more about where your competitors are getting their backlinks from you can do just this with WebComp Analyst.
To see where your competitors are obtaining their links, double click on the URL of site you want to examine. This will then open up the deep link analysis tool. Click on the “Analyze Links” button and you will then get a list of all of the sites that are linking to your competitors site. You will also be able to see the anchor text they are using for each link. This again is very powerful information to have, as it will allow you to approach the same sites that are linking back to your competitors and put your own links there.
WebComp Analyst also has a keyword suggestion tool so you can do even more thorough research. Simply click on the “Keyword Suggestions” link, type in your chosen keyword phrase and click on the “Get suggestion” button. WCA will then scour Wordtracker and Ask.com to find you related search phrases.
If you really don’t have any keyword phrases or a niche in mind, then you can also use WCA niche keyword generator tool.
